Presentation Skills

  • Delivery of a pre-prepared presentation on a subject chosen by the delegate, relevant to their professional role.

N.B. The duration of each delegate's presentation will vary based on the total course length and the number of participants. An ideal group size is eight participants.

  • Comprehensive one-to-one and group feedback

Preparing a Presentation

  • Key questions for the presenter to address in advance:
    • Why is it my responsibility?
    • Logistics: what, where, when, how – and what is the timeframe?
    • Understanding how the answers to these questions influence the presentation structure
  • Structuring the content:
    • Research – mastering the subject matter
    • Organizing the content logically
    • Creating and utilizing complementary visual aids

Preparing the Presenter

  • The three fundamental communication tools for a presenter:
    • Verbal – choosing appropriate words and avoiding slang or jargon
    • Vocal – managing tone and avoiding distracting verbal habits or unnecessary punctuation
    • Visual – the presenter's appearance, including dress, mannerisms, and overall presence
  • Rehearsing the presentation and obtaining honest feedback from a trusted source
  • Techniques for coping with nerves

Preparing the Environment

  • Room layouts and how they convey underlying messages to the audience
  • Leveraging the room to enhance the overall presentation experience

Presentation Skills – Revisited

  • Delivery of a second presentation (after an adequate preparation period).

N.B. This may be the same presentation as in Module 1, refined based on the detailed feedback received.

  • Comprehensive one-to-one and group feedback
